Borussia Dortmund played a tough away game to Shakhtar this midweek. So the question is if the reigning Bundesliga Champions are ready to take on an Eintracht Frankfurt side that is fourth in the League standings. Frankfurt has also gained confidence after being unbeaten in their last three matches. After 21 games in the Bundesliga only 2 points separates the two. Most of us would have thought Dortmund would be several points more ahead when the season started.

Stats and Facts

Dortmund is 5-2-3 at home so far this season with a goal difference of 21-12. Eintracht Frankfurt is 4-1-5 away (13-15). Form wise Dortmund has been solid lately. The home loss to HSV last matchday (1-4) was probably down to the Champions League midweek game against Shaktar that ended 2-2. Before the HSV game Dortmund racked up four Bundesliga wins on the trot. Frankfurt is unbeaten in their last three Bundesliga games, so they’re not running bad either.

Last time this fixture was played Dortmund won 3-1. The reverse fixture this season ended 3-3. It was a match that seemed beyond Frankfurt’s reach at 0-2, but they got back to 2-2, went down 2-3 before Bamba gave them 3-3 in the 72nd minute of the match.

For Dortmund Lewandowski (Striker) is suspended. Gundogan (Midfielder) is a doubt. He sat out against Shakhtar in midweek. Eintracht Frankfurt has no problems to report.

Normally I’d say Dortmund, but 9/20 (1.45) doesn’t appeal to me when Frankfurt is visiting. Two points separate the two after 21 games. Frankfurt has shown a lot of character this season, and Dortmund must feel the Shakthar game in their legs. It doesn’t help Lewandowski is suspended either.
