Cologne has started the season really well, but lost big in last match away to Eintracht Frankfurt. The team is normally solid in defence , so the match against Frankfurt was a bit unusual. But Frankfurt had Meier return in great form and therefore a very good offence. Cologne made some clever signings in the transfer window and have improved their attack, and this has earned seven points in four matches so far. They have no new injuries or suspensions for today’s match.

Borussia Monchengladbach has lost four of four matches this season. In the midweek Champions League they lost 3-0 away to Sevilla, and if they have a panic button in their boardroom it must surely have been pressed already. Losing to Borussia Dortmund can be explained, but also losing to Werder Bremen, Mainz and HSV is not good enough. The club has not been able to play consistently for 90 minutes, and only occasionally have they shown their potential. For today’s match Xhaka is back in midfield. The central defender Stranzl is still unavailable, the same goes for Dominguez (another central defender). Their winger Herrmann did not play in the previous match, but could perhaps be back today. Even so, they can still replace him with the roughly similarly capable Andre Hahn.

In this bet I am betting against Borussia Monchengladbach. They have some talent in their squad, but have not managed the loss of important players Kruse and Kramer well. They should be able to turn things around, although this will not happen overnight. Cologne playing at home is a difficult opponent, and hard to beat. Gladbach is in poor form and this is not the match they will turn things around.
