Darmstadt has shown that it is indeed possible to play with a well-organized defence and defensive-minded football in the Bundesliga. They drew three matches before winning 1-0 against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. I do not know if Leverkusen underestimated Darmstadt, or was just focusing on the Champions League, but regardless it was a poor match by them. But still, for a newly promoted team, six points in four matches is not bad. Today they will face an enormous task, so it is a good thing they do not have any new injuries or suspensions.

Bayern Munich has four wins in four matches. Against Augsburg it looked like they would lose two points, but they managed to win in the last minutes of the match after getting a “cheap” penalty. They created lots of chances in the Champions League match against Olympiakos, and when Muller first opened the score sheet they ended up scoring two more, winning 3-0. There is no doubt they have a great team, but they do have some luck as well. For today’s match Lewandowski, Vidal and Alonso are all doubtful. Robben, Benatia, Badstuber and Ribery are still out with injuries. Regardless, they will field a very strong team.

This feels like a Tom vs Jerry match, the cat playing with the mouse.  We shall see if the mouse can out-trick the cat, or if Augsburg falls apart and concede four/five goals. Bayern will have control of the match and the possession, and with players like Muller, Goetze and Costa they should be able to convert chances. My strategy will be to get decent odds on Bayern -1 Asian handicap. At the moment the odds for this is just below 3/10 (1.30), too short when you consider that Bayern has some injuries and has had some luck plus a midweek Champions League match. At the same time, Bayern is so good that playing against them is hard, therefore I will wait and take -1 if the opportunity arrives.
