Hamburger SV is in 11th place with 10 points, after winning three matches, drawing one and losing four. In their previous match they lost (surprisingly big) 0-3 away to Hertha Berlin, and this means they have two losses in a row now as they also recently lost 0-1 at home to Schalke. HSV has played a training match in the recent break (due to international fixtures), and they beat the Danish side Viborg 3-0 at home. Things are as usual within the club, in other words, and it is not easy to easy estimate how they will perform as their performances vary quite a lot.
There are no news concerning injuries or suspensions for HSV. Gojko Kacar is still out, but he is not an obvious starting XI candidate anyway. Three other non-regular players are doubtful: Zoltan Stieber, Artjoms Rudnevs and Ronny Marcos.
Bayer Leverkusen is in 7th place with 13 points, a disappointing result for them, but they are still only three points below the third place that awards Champions League play. They have won four matches, tied in one, and lost three. When you consider the potential of the team then this is not more than ok results. In the last three matches they have two wins and one draw, after beating Mainz 1-0 at home and Werder Bremen 3-0 away. In the previous round they tied 1-1 at home to Augsburg, in a match where they were unlucky and deserved the win. They have also played in the Champions League, and lost 1-2 away to Barcelona (they took the lead after 22 minutes and kept it until the 80th minute). Next week they will face another great club, as Rome will come for a visit.
Leverkusen is missing the defensive players Wendell and Lars Bender (though there is still some hope he will play). Roberto Hilbert and Charles Aranguiz are still out. Some players are doubtful: Kevin Kampl, Omer Toprak, Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Jonathan Tah and Tin Jedevaj. Another doubtful is Javier Hernandez, reason being that he has travelled far after playing for Mexico and he could be saved for the CL match against Rome.
The two teams have met twice in Hamburg in the last year, and both times HSV has been the winner. Leverkusen is of course the best team, but considering the problems they have I believe the odds should be above 2.20 before I consider a bet on them, and at the moment the odds are only around 1.80. I will therefore go for the outsider bet here, and take HSV at odds 10/3 (4.33) with BET365.
