Hertha Berlin has done better so far this season compared to what I expected before the season. Seven points in five matches is ok, but there are still some warning signs as they have lost two of the last three matches. In last match they kept up with Wolfsburg for quite some time, but when Wolfsburg sent in Bas Dost they were unable to reply and lost the match 2-0. That was an away match, and it is at home where Hertha has to win this season. So far they have beaten Stuttgart 2-1 and tied 1-1 against Werder Bremen. For today’s match they will get the striker Cigerci back, but they are still missing the winger Beerens. In defence they will have to do without Langkamp (he played last match), while Pekarik is still out.

Cologne has impressed me a bit this season. They have managed to build a solid defence, and in my opinion it was this defence that kept them in the league last season. So far this season they have ten points in five matches. I believe they are pretty happy with this, and they now have an attack that will cause problems for most of the Bundesliga teams. Modeste in particular has been great with four goals in five matches. There are no new injuries or suspensions reported for today’s match.

This should be a pretty even match. Last season this fixture ended 0-0 in a match where both teams took on a more defensive stance. We could see the same today, and Hertha is the team that has to take control if we are to see much action. It will suit Cologne well if Hertha does this, as Cologne likes to counter-attack and has the players for this.

Despite the fact that less than 20% of the Bundesliga matches this season has ended in draws (56% has ended as either draw or away win), my bet will be Cologne +0.25 at odds 1.91 with Sportmarket. I believe this will be a very even match, and if there is a winner it should be the away team.
