Hertha Berlin is in a decent sixth place with 11 points, 3-2-2 and a goal difference of 8-8. They have beaten Augsburg, Stuttgart and Cologne, so pretty average opponents. Their losses came as expected against Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg. In their last match they tied 1-1 away to Frankfurt, a match where Frankfurt took the lead after 22 minutes and Hertha equalised in the 82nd minute. Both teams hit the woodwork, but overall it was probably Frankfurt that would have deserved to win.
Hertha Berlin has some players that would normally fight for a starting XI position out with injuries: Thomas Kraft (goalie), Roy Beerens (attacker), Ronny (attacker), Anis Ben-Hatira (attacker), Sami Allagui (attacker), John Anthony Brooks (defender), Peter Pekarik (defender), Sebastian Langkamp (defender) and Julian Schieber (attacker). The replacement for Kraft in goal has been Jarstein, and that has worked out ok. In attack the players Ibsevic and Kalou are good players at the Bundesliga level, so the team has not suffered that much (so far) due to the absentees in attack, and the starting XI today should be good.
HSV has three wins, one draw, and three losses. This means they are roughly in the middle of the table, in 10th place with ten points. Last weekend they lost 0-1 at home to Schalke, and they therefore have 1-1-1 in last three and a goal difference of 1-1 in said matches.
Zoltan Stieber is the only absentee that could have fought for a starting position, although he has not played yet this season. Other players unavailable are Artjoms Rudnevs, Ashton Gotz and Ronny Marcos.
The odds on Hertha have fallen quite a lot pre-match. HSV is a club in chaos and has not performed good enough compared to the investments made. But at the same time, they have improved lately, especially in defence, and has kept a clean sheet in last three of four matches. Today’s match should be a tight and even match. Hertha as the home side will probably have to take charge, and this will suit a counter-attacking HSV well. If Hertha takes a more balanced approach and focus on staying compact in defence, then this could be a boring match, so the draw is a possibility. But as a winner I believe more in the away team, and I think they are happy with recent improvements (especially compared to last season). My bet is therefore on HSV Draw no bet, odds 6/4 (2.50) with PaddyPower.
