Hoffenheim had to go through playoff to stay in the Bundesliga last season while Nurnberg ended mid table, 13 points ahead of their opponent. Read on to find out how the sides compare to each other this season, and how I think this match will be played out!

Hoffenheim has done pretty good in preseason, beating Olympiakos 4-1, and progressing in the cup after beating Aumund-Vegesack 9-0 away from home. In January Hoffenheim brought in quite a bit of new players. They have continued that this window. Modeste, a decent attacking midfielder has been brought in along with the offensive minded Elyounoussi  and defender Braafheid as well as a few more unknown names. Braafheid will however sit this one out due to injury. Versatile midfielder Sejad Salihovic will miss out together with another midfielder, Tobias Weiss too. Eren Derdiyok (Striker) will miss too. I think only Sejad Salihovic can be considered a real miss here, so I doubt it will have much influence on the outcome of this game.

Hoffenheim looks improved to me, and although I don’t think they will set the Bundesliga alight point wise they have enough in them to survive another season with their wonderful free flowing attacking football.

Nurnberg info and predictions

Nurnberg has had a mixed preseason result wise, and went out of the Cup against Sandhausen (On Penalties). Highly rated central defenders Timm Klose and the veteran Timmy Simons have left the club. Emanuel Pogatetz has been brought in as a replacement. The side has also bought a few young offensive players like Daniel Ginczek who did very well for St Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. Josip Drmic who had a good season for Zurich, and is a Swiss international has also come in.

Overall I think Nurnberg may be in trouble this season. Losing their best central defense pairing is going to hurt them. They got decent replacements, but I’m not convinced they’ll be as solid as Klose and Simmons were. Also, bringing a lot of young talent in isn’t going to cut it at the high Bundesliga level unless they get lucky. I think Nurnberg is looking at the bottom half of the table, closer to the relegation fight than European football for sure.

Hoffenheim looks to be on a roll, and they have improved their squad quite a bit over the two last windows. Against a Nurnberg side that probably will need some time getting their defensive line up to speed I think the home win priced at 2.10 (11/10) looks very juicy over at BET365.
