Hoffenheim earned their first win of the season last weekend, when they beat Augsburg 3-1 away. Augsburg is not the toughest of opponents though, as they have 1-1-5 themselves this season (plus a small squad, some injury problems and European cup as well). Hoffenheim also managed a draw 1-1 against Borussia Dortmund three days earlier, so all in all the last two matches are an improvement result wise. They currently stand with 1-2-4 and five points, one point above Augsburg in play-off position. Some new players have been brought in, while some previously regular starting XI players have been sold, and as we know it takes time for a new team to settle. Perhaps they are now well-suited for performing better than earlier?
Jiloan Hamad, Kai Herdling, and Tarik Elyounoussi are all still out with injuries (of these players only Elyounoussi would probably have been a candidate for regular starting XI position). Eduardo Vargas (attacker) and Sebastian Rudy (midfield) have both played five matches earlier this season, and are doubtful for today’s match.
Stuttgart is second to last on the table, with six losses and one win, and a goal difference of 9-17. The win came against Hannover, the team that is dead last on the table. Last weekend Stuttgart lost 1-3 at home against Gladbach. If you look at their away matches in the Bundesliga, Stuttgart has two wins in last ten matches, over mentioned Hannover plus Paderborn last season (when Paderborn was relegated). Of the other ten away matches seven ended with loss and one was a draw.
Filip Kostic (regular winger) has recently been injured and is unavailable today. Mitchell Langerak (goalie) and Robbie Kruse (attacker) are still injured. Both would have competed for a starting position. Christian Gentner (captain and midfielder), Serey Die (midfield) and Timo Baumgartl (central defender) are all doubtful. If all three are out today this will definitely not be good for the Stuttgart defence, so keep an eye on the final starting XI.
My bet here is the home win for Hoffenheim, at odds 6/4 (2.50) with BoyleSports. But I will wait for the final starting XIs, and the odds should go down if Stuttgart will be without Die, Gentner and Baumgartl, but it is still a much better bet if we know this for sure.
As usual in the Bundesliga, I will look for a bet on the over in total goals, especially if Stuttgart is missing the mentioned defenders. The odds on the over 2.5 goals are too low for me pre-match, but if there is action in this match I will be looking for a bet on the over after around 20 minutes if it is still 0-0 and 11 vs 11 players. If there is an early goal I will be considering over 1.5 or 1.75 for halftime, or over 3 fulltime.
