Mainz (6-1-6) have won two of their last three which has seen them rise up to seventh in the table. All  those wins came against lesser opposition though, and they do tend to struggle against the better sides. They have lost to Dortmund on the last six occasions they have met in Mainz. Dortmund (9-1-3) got a crucial win in the Champions league in midweek which halted an unusual three game losing streak. Last weeks loss to Bayern leaves them seven points adrift of the Champions, and they can ill afford to lose any more ground now. Hummels, Schmelzer, Subotic and Gundogan are out injured for Dortmund continuing the defensive selection headache, and Mainz miss Wetklo(gk), Bungert, Fathi(def), Baumgaurtlinger, Muller(mid) and Schahin(str). Muller is a key miss as he is currently top scorer for the side.
