Schalke v Hannover Stats and Facts
Schalke is 5-2-2 at home this season in the Bundesliga, while Hannover has only managed 2-0-6 away from home. Form wise Schalke has gone six Bundesliga games without a win. For a club of Schalke's status that is quite unacceptable. Hannover has four losses in their last six, so one can't say they been on top form either. It must be noted that this is the first game after the winter break in Germany however, so the form data is perhaps not that indicative on what will happen on the night. Last time Schalke hosted Hannover it ended 3-0 for Schalke. That was a game Schalke dominated when it comes to play and chances. The reverse fixture this season ended 2-2. Also in this game Schalke was the better side.
Team News and Run of Play
Jermaine Jones and Huntelaar are suspended for Schalke, Ibrahim Affelay is injured. Young bits and part player Christoph Mortiz will be missing with an injury as well. Other than that they should field a strong side. Schalke will need to improve as the run up to the christmas hollidays was horrible. They have mixed results in training matches, but finished with a well played 2-1 win against Paderborn where most of their stars got game time. Edit: It has just come out news that attacking midfielder Raffael (who has great experience from the Bundesliga) has signed on loan from Dynamo Kiev. This is a slick player that will add to the offense of this Gelsenkirchen side.
Hannover has been shopping this winter. John Djourou (Centre Back/Right Back) has come in from Arsenal, Andre Hoffmann (Cente Back/Defensive Midfield) has come in from Duisburg and Franca (Defensive Midfield) has signed from Coritiba. Defender Christian Schulz might be out after undergoing a small operation for his appendicitis. Obviously Hannover has gone for strengthening their defense this transfer window. Who can blame them, as they were leaking goals left, right and centre. The new signings have been eased into the side in an Algarve mini tournament against Heerenveen and Leverkusen.
I think Schalke will be the side with the possession. Hannover will keep playing their usual attack-minded game. As usual it is down to execution in front of both goals.
Schalke v Hannover predictions for 1x2
I think the winter break has been good for Schalke. Huntelaar has signed a new contract, so the fuzz surrounding him has died down. They do miss a couple of excellent players, but this outfit has plenty of talent on the bench. Hannover looks very improved to me. Djourou is definitely a great signing defensively. Hoffmann and Franca are not tested at this level, and they are quite young. Hoffmann is a Germany under 20 international, and he's been great for Duisburg. Franca is a very physical, tall boy who surely will be commanding as an anchor on the middle of the park. One would suspect it would take time to get Hannover to click as a unit with these new signings. Therefore I still back the classy Schalke side here. The odds are pretty good as well as the market is reacting to the poor pre christmas form of Schalke and the new signings of Hannover. 1.75 from Unibet is really nice.
Unibet also has a €20 Risk Free bet offer for new customers. If you bet Schalke and lose, you get a free bet worth up to €20. Risk Free Friday entertainment in other words.
