Schalke has a lot of potential. They play wonderful attacking football and have some world class players. Hamburger SV (HSV) had a season as one could expect, and ended 7 points behind their opposition here. Meeting Schalke in the season opener will certainly be a stern test for them. Schalke info and predictions

Schalke has played a lot of preseason games and looked pretty solid. They’ve scored a lot of goals, and among other they beat Southampton 2-0. In the German Cup recently they beat Nottingen 2-0 away. Affellay has returned to Barcelona, but Schalke has brought in a lot of quality this transfer window. Adam Szalai had a great season up front for Mainz, and was picked up by Schalke. Felipe Santana played 21 games in the first eleven at Dortmund last season, he’ll be strengthening the defense for sure. Sergio Escudero played well for Getafe at left back when he got the chance last season. Tim Hoogland is brought in to add competition to the right back place. Anthony Annan is a very solid defensive midfielder coming in from Osasuna where he didn’t get too much game time last season. Christian Clemens and Leon Goretzka are young talents in advanced midfield positions. It will be interesting to see how they fare.

Schalke has enough quality to fight for third. It is quite unrealistic to think they’ll go toe to toe with Bayern and Dortmund. Third or Fourth is my qualified prediction.

op notch defender Papadopoulos is still out due to his ugly injury. Other than that Schalke has a great squad to choose from.

HSV (Hamburger SV) info and predictions

HSV has played a lot of preseason matches against international opposition. The results have varied, but in the cup game on the 04.08 they looked strong when beating Schott Jena 4-0 away from home. They’ve sold the very versatile and skilled attacking midfielder/forward Heung-Min Son. He’ll be a miss for sure. They have bought: Lasse Sobiech, a young promising central defender, Kerem Demirbay, a young Midfielder, Jacques Zoua, another youngster, this one being more offensive. Johan Djourou has also come in to strengthen the defense but he must sit out here due to injury! Micheal Mancienne (Really good Central Defender) must also sit out. Midfield battler Paul Scharner would perhaps not be a starter, but he is out nevertheless. I'd say HSV will be there for the taking at the back!

HSV has lost a really good player offensively, but added some quality at the back. Overall I think HSV will be pretty much at the same level they were in 2012/2013.

Schalke v HSV betting tips for 1x2

Schalke won 4-1 last year in a fun to watch game yielding three goals in 21 minutes. The victory was deserved! The season before it ended 3-1! All the goals came in the first half. HSV were never really close as Schalke made it 3-0 within 33 minutes.

Quality wise I think Schalke has a much better squad this season compared to last year. Hopefully for them that translates to a more stable season. Last season they dropped a lot of points in a period where key players were injured. Their worst run at that point was only two wins in thirteen games. I definitely think Schalke will be more than 7 points ahead of HSV when all the points have been rewarded.
