Stuttgart finally got their first win of the season last weekend, when they beat Hannover 3-1 away. Maybe not the most impressive result when you consider that Hannover is at the bottom of the table, men Stuttgart should take whatever positives they can get at the moment as they have five losses so far. At home they have lost 1-3 to Cologne, 1-4 to Frankfurt, and 0-1 to Schalke. As I have written in previous predictions, Stuttgart started the season in full gung-ho style, but has lately focused a bit more on a balanced approach. There is little doubt that they will try the same tactics today. For this match they have midfielder Gentner as doubtful, but otherwise the team looks ok when it comes to injuries.

Borussia Monchengladbach has the same stats as Stuttgart, one win and five losses, and slightly worse goal difference of 6-14. And similar to Stuttgart, Gladbach got their first win of the season last weekend when they beat Augsburg 4-2 at home – this the first match after the reputable Rene Favre resigned as coach, so the club at least reacted well to his shock exit. That win must have been very good for the team morale, even though Augsburg has 1-1-4 and is not that hard to beat. Borussia Monchengladbach also has Champions League to play, last week they lost 3-0 away to Sevilla, and this coming Wednesday Manchester City will visit them. For today’s match there are  no new injuries reported, but Drmic is doubtful. Martin Stranzl and Tony Jantschke (both central defenders) are still out.

The interim Gladbach coach Schubert should be able to build on the win last weekend and make the team perform well today. They do have Champions League next midweek, but with the poor start to the Bundesliga season they have no choice but to focus on today’s match. Stuttgart has improved a bit lately, but on paper and player for player the Gladbach side is playing much better. So when they now first have a win, I am following that up with a bet on them against a relatively weak opponent.
