Werder Bremen is in 13th place with 2-1-3 and a goal difference of 7-9, something that earns them seven points. This is probably the level at which they should be at. At home they have lost against Schalke (a match that was more even that the result indicated) and Ingolstadt (in a match where the visitors were compact and Werder was unable to break down their defence), while they won 2-1 over Borussia Monchengladbach (a team out of form). Werder Bremen currently has two consecutive losses, first at home to Ingolstadt and then away to Darmstadt. Both these teams are newly promoted, so this is probably serving as a warning for the management at Weserstadion. Things are not looking better though, as they are today missing Fin Bartels (offensive midfielder) and Bargfrede (central/defensive midfielder). Plus their defender Garcia is still out.
Bayer Leverkusen has three wins and three losses, and has not started quite as well as they would hope. They have just nine points, are four points behind a secure Champions League spot, and a whopping nine points behind Bayern Munich. There is six points down to the relegation line and two points up to the Champions League qualification spot. In the last match they beat Mainz 1-0 at home, but yet again it was not an impressive performance by Leverkusen. On away field they have one win and two losses, and the two losses came against the current top two teams (3-0 loss to both Bayern Munich and Dortmund), while the win came against Hannover. Leverkusen is also playing in the Champions League, they took a nice 4-1 win at home against BATE last week, and next week they have quite a task ahead of them as they travel to Barcelona. For today’s match they have not reported any new injuries or suspensions.
The odds on Leverkusen are around 1/1 (2.00), and despite the fact that I still do not trust them in the form they are currently in, they are today facing an opponent that is not doing too well either. As mentioned in previous predictions, Werder Bremen had to construct a new attack as Selke and Di Santo left the club. They have replaced them with decent players that are ok for the Bundesliga level, and they have also become a more balanced team compared to previous seasons when they would both concede and score plenty of goals. Regardless, there should be a difference of class between the two teams.
My strategy is to watch the match live. If Leverkusen is the best team in the beginning and is able to create chances, then I will wait and go for the odds around 2.20 (6/5) with BET365. And it could be that I might wait for the -0.25 Asian handicap line and take it at odds around 2.00 (1/1).
