Werder Bremen "rested" players versus Bayern Munich last time around. Obviously for them that was a game they did expect nothing out of. And nothing they got, it ended 5-0 for the mighty Bavarians. Today is a totally different matter. Behind the runaways; Bayern Munich and Dortmund it is fairly close. Werder Bremen are currently 15th in the Bundesliga standings, 13 points behind Mainz who still is in the running for Champions League football next season. 13 points between a Champions League contender and a relegation candidate after 26 matches played is not so much.
Werder Bremen will miss January recruit Yatabare in midfield. Also Djilbodji (central defender) might miss out. For Mainz Bengtsson and Bungert may return to the defense, allthough I think its more likely to find them on the bench. Donati (fullback) and Muto (attacking player) are still out.
Both sides are very good at counter attacks so it is likely we will see a cagey game, but it is equally likely (if not more) that Werder will be on the front foot trying to take the game to Mainz. They are definitely in need of points. As always, that first goal can blow a tie like this wide open. I would not be surprised if this goes +3.5 but 2.50 looks a safer option in my opinion at 1.79 with 188.
