Wolfsburg is down in a disappointing 9th place, with 12 points after three wins, three draws, and two losses. But it is still early in the season, and they are only four points behind the third place that awards Champions League play. Wolfsburg started the season well with no losses in the first five matches, but recently their form has dipped. The last three matches has ended with two losses (1-5 away to Bayern Munich, 0-2 away to Gladbach), and a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Hannover. If you include the 1-2 loss against Manchester United in the Champions League, they have three losses and one draw in last four matches. Next week PSV is visiting them in the Champions League, and that match could be in their minds today. Unfortunately for Wolfsburg, it seems like they are missing De Bruyne and Perisic. Bas Dost has continued to score goals, but Niclas Bendtner, Andre Schurrle and new arrivals Julian Draxler and Max Kruse have not been good enough. The team can keep up with most opponents on the field, but as we know you need to score more goals than the opposition to win matches.

The important Luiz Gustavo is doubtful for today’s match, same goes for Vieirinha that arrived back on Thursday after playing for Brazil. Robin Knoche and Felipe are both still out (they have not played a match so far this season).

Hoffenheim has one win, three draws, and four losses so far this season. This earns them six points and 15th position. They started the season with just one draw and four losses in the first five matches, but have managed to turn the trend around a bit lately. In the last three matches they have managed 1-1 at home against Dortmund, beaten Augsburg 3-1 away, and drawing 2-2 at home against Stuttgart. Considering that Stuttgart is in last position on the table, and Augsburg is in 16th place, the results are not that impressive, but still an improvement. In the match against Stuttgart they were leading twice (both goals by Volland), and Stuttgart got the final equaliser in the 90th minute. Overall, Hoffenheim has played decently, but they have not been able to replace Roberto Firmino in offence, and even Anthony Modeste is probably missed (6 goals in 8 matches for Cologne). Kevin Volland is looking good, having scored four goals in the last two matches is impressive, but I doubt he will manage to score in every match.

Hoffenheim has Eduardo Vargas doubtful today (one goal and two assists in six matches). Plus there is some doubt over Eugen Polanski, Kevin Kuryani and Oliver Baumann. However, Taik Elyounoussi is back and could be a contender at least as a substitute.

Wolfsburg should be taking the lead in this match, but Hoffenheim and Kevin Volland in great form will give them a good fight. Wolfsburg should not expect an easy match, and considering where they are on the table they cannot afford to not focus on this match, even if they have Champions League next week. So Wolfsburg will be under pressure, and I think Hoffenheim +1 at odds 33/40 (1.83) with BET365 is attractive.
