AC Milan is 3-1-1 domestically after appointing Seedorf as coach. The controversial striker Balotelli has been instrumental with five goals in this interval. So far in the Champions League AC Milan is 1-2-0 at home this season. They beat Celtic 2-0, and then played 1-1 against Barcelona before finishing with 0-0 against Ajax. Here they will miss solid central midfielders Sulley Ali Muntari and Riccardo Montolivo due to suspension.
Atletico Madrid is still going strong domestically. Atletico is still in the hunt for League glory and documenting good form this weekend by winning 3-0 in style against Valladolid. Atletico Madrid has impressed in the Champions League so far as they’ve won five out six matches. Away to home they’ve beaten both Porto and Austria Wien. Against Zenit they drew 1-1. Influential midfielder Tiago is still out due to injury, so is left back Filipe Luis.
Run of play
Atletico Madrid has given the opposition the chance to have more of the ball when playing away in the Champions League. It is quite likely they again will go for a counter attack tactic against Milan. I would not be surprised if Atletico Madrid would be careful sending to many players forward unless there is a real good opportunity to break. On the other hand; Simeone might ponder how weakened Milan will be defensively as Muntari and Montolivo both take on many defensive duties. If he lands on “very weakened” he might want to go for the jugular here. If he does, I think they have enough quality to manage. That scenario is not favorite though! Away from home in the knock out stages, safety usually comes first.
Milan has tons of Champions League experience. They will build a solid defensive structure and try to set up Balotelli in good goal scoring situations. I can’t really see goals coming from many of the other players to be honest. They will be confident they can get something out of the game as they drew Barcelona in the group stages.
Betting tips
Yesterday I wagered five units and won 8.5. If you had bet £100 on my five tips you would have had a return of 850, a profit of £350. Hopefully my tips will be as good today!
I rate Atletico Madrid the better side of the two, but in a two-legged knock out match I can’t see any value in the odds available for the away win. AC Milan has so much experience, and they are experts at defending in situations like this.
I much rather go for 3.30 on the draw over at Coral. (I originally had Unibet here, but their odds is only 3.15 now). This can very easily become a cagey game, and either side has the quality to pull one back should the opposition go one up.
Take a very valuable 3.30, click here.
