BARCELONA V CELTIC PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: STATS AN FACTS
Barcelona sit top of la liga with 22 points from 8 matches. They are a huge 8 points ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid and are big favourites to win back the title this year. In their last 5 la liga matches they have won 4, scoring 16 goals and conceding 9. They are also perfect in the Champions League having won their two games so far, 3-2 against Spartak and 2-0 at Benfica.
Celtic also sit top of their league with a 3 point cushion and game in hand over St Johnstone. They have been in their best form of the season recently winning their last 5 games in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and conceding just 3. They also remain undefeated in the Champions League, drawing at home to Benfica in week one then pulling off a historic away win at Spartak Moscow last time out.
RUN OF PLAY AND TEAM NEWS
Barcelona have been struggling with injuries for the majority of the season, especially defensively. They will be without Carlos Puyol who has a broken arm and will again rely on two midfielders in Alex Song and Javier Mascarano as starting centre backs. Thankfully for Barcelona though, Pique should be back from injury soon and will make a big impact to their defence.
As usual in Barcelona games they will dominate possession with Celtic looking to stay disciplined and hit them on the break. This is not Celtic’s normal style of play though and they may struggle to adapt to not seeing the ball for long periods.
Celtic will gamble on the fitness of captain Scott Brown who’s aggressive harrying style of play is exactly what Celtic need in this game. If he misses out then they do not have someone who can fill in at his quality. I’d expect Celtic to flood the midfield in this match and drop a striker, the lone striker will probably be Gary Hooper who will have a lot of work to do pressing the defenders from high up the pitch

The bookies can see just one winner in this match and that is unsurprisingly Barcelona. They are a miniscule 1.09 for the win. I would fully expect a Barcelona win myself but am not comfortable at those odds and instead will look at a small play on the draw at 16.2 with Betfair.
