Basel has beaten Manchester United and Bayern Munich at home in the Champions League in recent years. They beat Chelsea away last Champions League match day too. They’ve lost some really good players the recent transfer windows, but still they seem to claw back into the European Elite. Here Fabian Schar (Swissinternational defender) is a 50-50 doubt.

Schalke 04 beat Steaua Bucuresti 3-0 at home on the first match day of the 2013/2014 UEFA Champions League. Schalke  04 has been more cagey than their usual self away from home in the Champions League. Last season they played three out of four away games under 2.5. Since and including 2011 they are 5-3-1 away from home actually!  Here Jermaine Jones (Midfielder) is out, Huntelaar (Striker) is injured still too. Julian Draxler (Attacking Midfielder) returns.

Basel v Schalke betting tips

This is set to be a very interesting game to watch. To me it looks like the bookmakers put too much weight on Basel’s win on Stamford Bridge. Schalke 04 may have opened poorly in the Bundesliga, but they have a fantastic side with the potential to outscore the home side. I think the odds for Schalke (2.88 or 15/8) are too high.
