BENFICA V CELTIC PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Benfica are in top form and are currently joint top of Primeira Liga with Porto.  They have won their last 5 matches in all competitions with an aggregate score of 11-0.  In the Champions league they have won just 1 of their 4 matches though and are 3^rd in the table with 4 points.  They need a win tonight to have any chance of qualifying to the knockout stages.

Celtic have been very inconsistent with their domestic form this season but are still top of the SPL with 25 points from 13 games.  They are undefeated in their last 5 matches, winning 3 and drawing 2.  In the Champions League they are proving a lot of people wrong and sit 2^nd in the group with 7 points from their 4 matches.  Their win over Barcelona in the last game-week was one of the best results in their history.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Benfica has been playing some amazing football recently and are looking like real challengers to Porto for the title.  They had a net income from transfers of over €30m in the summer but that doesn’t seem to have affected their performances at all and the replacements they have brought in have performed admirably.  There is a real chance that Benfica will not make it through the Champions League group however with them currently 3 points behind Celtic and a tough final game at Barcelona after this match.

Celtic were strong favourites to finish bottom of this Champions League group but have made many in Europe sit up and take notice with some excellent performances.  An away win in Moscow was their first for many years and two excellent displays against Barcelona has put them second in the group on merit.  A draw tonight or win in the final group game at home against Spartak would be enough to see them into the knockout stages and no more than they deserve.
