CFR CLUJ V BRAGA PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Cluj are having a tough season in Liga 1 and are currently down in 6^th place with 25 points from 16 games, winning 7, drawing 4 and losing 5.  They are 16 points behind leaders Steaua and look unlikely to be able to retain the title they won last year.  In the Champions league they have 4 points after 4 matches and are 2^nd in a very tight group.  3 points here could be enough to get them into the knockout stages if things go their way elsewhere in the next game-week.

Braga are 3^rd in Primeira Liga behind the big two Porto and Benfica.  They have 17 points from 9 matches and are 6 points behind their rivals.  In the Champions League things are closer however with Braga on 3 points after 4 matches but only 1 point off 2^nd place.  They will probably need at least a draw here then a home win in the final game to have any chance of qualifying but it isn’t impossible.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Cluj weren’t expected to make it into the group stages this year but an excellent qualifying campaign where they beat Basel home and away in the final qualifier booked their place.  Their spending has been pretty non-existent compared to the top teams in Europe so it is an excellent achievement just to qualify for the group stage and anything else is a bonus.

Braga have much less resources than their domestic rivals Porto and Benfica and are in a totally different league to the big guns in Europe but they have held their own and performed admirably.  A 3^rd place finish and a Europa League spot after Christmas would be seen as a win even if they don’t make it through the group.  They are unlikely to win their place into the Champions League next season considering the form of Porto and Benfica so it’s important the club enjoys their time here now.

Despite being the away side Braga are small favourites for this match.  I think this is fair as they play the higher level competition each week domestically and have a stronger squad all round. 

Ladbrokes are offering a Braga win at 2.50 which is a very strong price.
