Champions League: Manchester United - Galatasaray
Manchester United vs Galatasaray predictions - Stats
Both Manchester United and Galatasaray have scored a minimum of three goals in each of their last three Super Lig games. Both the Turks and the Brits have managed three wins out of four attempts. The teams met in this setting last in 1994. The score board read 0-0 in Istanbul and 4-0 in Manchester. The year before the Turks knocked Mancester United out of the competition after an intense battle over two legs.
1x2 bet
Manchester United v Galatasaray is a mouthwatering group H clash. This clash takes place at Old Trafford on the 19.09.2012. Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping to have his newest additions Robin van Persie and Shinji Kagawa match fit and ready. Rooney is not expected to play. Manchester United has gotten off to a pretty good start in the English Premier League, something we have covered in previous betting predictions. Even without RvP available for the full 90 minutes against Wigan they got four goals out of twenty shots total. The game before that away to Southampton they got three goals in twenty attempts. This shows they are relatively clinical at the minute. Now they also have their preferred duo doing their work in the center of defense (Ferdinand/Vidic) so scoring against them will be no easy task. Although I am praising the Manchester United squad and offense here, be very aware they have not been as solid in Europe on home ground as in their very best seasons as of late. Just last season Manchester United fell at home to both Athletico Bilbao and Ajax in Europe.
Galatasaray will give their all, make no mistake about it. They have themselves gotten off to a very good start in the Turkish Super Lig. Three wins and one draw is the status so far. With decent players in Central defense such as Cris, Emmanuel Eboue and Tomaz Ujfalusi and midfield maestros such as ex Real Madrid player Hamit Altintorp (probably won’t play) and ex Juventus player Felipe Melo as well as Olympic 2012 Moroccan Nordin Amrabat they are not a team to write off even if the task is tough. Up front they got ex Bolton boy Elmander from Sweden. Umut Bulut and Burak Yilmaz know how to bang in the goals as well if the Swede fails to convert. Ex LFC players Baros and Riera also wear the coveted shirt and should be mentioned (Probably won’t play either though).
I do expect a bit more discipline from the Turks going into this game compared to the Super Lig all-out attack style. After all, in world football there aren’t many tougher games than United at Old Trafford. Galatasaray do look impressive defensively, and also up front. The question mark is how their midfield will perform versus a dynamic and hard fighting United heartbeat. Melo and Amrabat are great players, but can they dictate the pace of this game? Overall, I do think Manchester United will give us a standard performance. One of those we have seen time and time again.
My betting predictions conclusion for the 1x2 bet has to be that the odds of a Manchester United win are simply not good enough against a quality side like Galatasaray. 1/3 (1.33) is a joke. I go for the
12/1 (13.00) price currently given at Betfair.
Asian Handicap
I go with 1.94 at Bet Victor for Galatasaray +1.5. Even if United scores three, Galatasaray has enough quality to rack up a couple on their own. United is indeed a good team, but how can one overlook the solid quality of this Turkish side? There is nothing that indicates this will be a walk-over for the Manchester giants. I think this is very good odds. Go to Bet Victor and take this great odds here!
If you are not familiar with Asian Handicap betting. I strongly advice you to read our articles on the subject. You find these Asian Handicap articles here.
Total Goals
If the game goes off being played high pace, box to box we should get a high scoring and entertaining game. As mentioned however I think Galatasaray will be more disciplined than they perhaps should as per their all-out attack success lately. This is a danger for betting the overs. Manchester United is used to- and very skilled at playing against teams playing this way. With a deadly threat in Robin van Persie, and plenty of providers for the final pass United should have good chances of scoring. If they score first, this could open the game. Galatasaray will answer! With their offensive force they can put the English power house under siege for parts of the game. They got plenty of scoring ammunition, and can easily grasp one or two with some moments of magic. So no matter how I twist and turn this; this game reeks of goals. I go for the 1.925 (3.0) with Bet365. It seems juicy.
