Last bet of the day is an Eastern European matchup with CSKA Moscow facing up to Sparta Prague. I was quite surprised when I saw the opening odds as I was expecting CSKA to be very much shorter than they are. CSKA are 12 times champions of Russia with 5 coming in the last 15 years. They are currently ground sharing at Area Khimki as they wait for their new stadium to be completed. CSKA have played 2 games already in league and won both without conceding. In Europe they have a ranking off UEFA of 34 which is quite high. Overall record in continental competition is played 128 games, won 52, drawn 29 and lost 47. Recent years have seen Group stages of UCL and even to last 16 ties but losses to Porto and Real Madrid to end the good runs. Sparta Prague were one of the mainstays of the UCL in the early years and Czech sides were usually good for decent runs. However of late they and a lot of other countries around them have been unable to keep up with the cash rich Western Europeans and the oligarchs of the likes of Donetsk etc.  Sparta are 36 times champions of the country with 6 since 2000. In Europe they have a ranking of 72. Their overall return is played 250, won 101, drawn 58 and lost 91. Recent years have seen back to back 1^st round exits – both times at the hands of Swedish sides with Hacken and Malmo both ending their European jaunts. Sparta have played one league game so far this season with a 0-0 away draw.

This game seems to have the wrong odds to me. CSKA should be no bigger than 1.30 but here we can get 1.57 or 4/7 on the Russians. Sparta have done nothing recently which would suggest they can trouble CSKA. I have no hesitation in taking the -1 handicap either. Its the bet of the day for me.
