Last week the first leg of this Champions League play-off match saw Steaua Bucuresti hosting Legia Warszawa to a tie 1-1, so this will be an exciting second leg match deciding who gets to proceed to the group stages. Legia Warszawa are aiming for a bit of history-making for Polish football and the club, as no Polish team has advanced to the group stage in 17 years. In the first leg Steaua had the most possession and created a lot of chances (58% possession, 23-12 attempts and 12-5 attempts on target). The first goal was scored by Steaua in the 33rd minute, and Legia equalized in the 52nd minute. All in all Steaua were the most determined, but they were not able to convert their chances, and Legia were more content sitting back and strike on the counterattack, being more effective when it came to finishing their chances. 

Legia Warszawa have started their domestic season with three wins and two losses, and they are currently in third place in the Polish Extraklasa. Steaua Bucuresti have three wins, one draw, and no losses so far in the Romanian Liga I. They too did rest key players in the last league match, underlining the importance of this match and for both clubs to reach the group stages. Steaua have also played through two CL qualification rounds. They beat Vardar (from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) 5-1 on aggregate, and then Dinamo Tbilisi (from Georgia) 3-1 on aggregate.

Steaua Bucuresti will be missing defender Matei, midfielder Chipciu, forward Nikolic, important midfielder and Romanian international Pintilii, and defender Chiriches (seems to be on his way to Tottenham, uncertain if he will play). Legia Warszawa will do without defender Jodlowiec, forward Bereszynski (doubtful), goalie Wandzel, defender Astiz, and forward Efir.
