Malaga - Borussia Dortmund predictions

Malaga look to continue their improbable Champions League run amid off the field turmoil but face a very difficult task against an excellent Dortmund side who are undefeated in the competition this year.

Malaga faced some very difficult times off the field this season which resulted in the sale of a number of players who led them to 4th in la liga last season.  Instead of using that as an excuse for a poor seaosn they have performed above all expectations and have made the Champions League quarter finals after putting out a very strong Porto side in the last 16.  A difficult away fixture to start the tie saw Porto dominate the match but only manage to convert one chance to take a 1-0 lead to Malaga.  The Spanish side knew this was their big chance and an excellent performance saw a 2-0 win and a place in the last 8.  Malaga won't be able to compete in the Champions League next season even if they finish in the top 4 again due to financial reasons so this could be their last tie in the competition for some time.

Dortmund have been hugely impressive in the Champions League this year and are yet to lose a match.  They faced the most difficult group stage encounters with Real Madrid, Ajax and Manchester City in their group but managed to beat all those sides to top the group.  In the last 16 they faced a very dangerous Shakhtar side but after a draw in Donetsk, they dominated the Ukranian's 3-0 in Dortmund.  In the Bundesliga they have no chance of retaining their title for a 3rd straight year with rivals Bayern Munich utterly dominant and 20 points ahead.

Dortmund have a number of injury worries coming into this game with Marcel Schmelzer suffering a broken nose at the weekend but feels he could still make the match.  Bender and Grosskreutz also picked up knocks in the match but are expected to make it.

I rate Borussia Dortmund as the better side, but Malaga at home is no easy task. Malaga is 4-1-0 in a total of five Champions League games at home so far. Dortmund on the other hand hasn't lost a single away game in the Champions League this season. My take is that Dortmund will be slightly more defensive than their normal self. I do not see them doing much risky plays at least. This definitely will give the home team more time on the ball. After analyzing this scenario to death I come to the conclusion that 3.40 for the draw is just funny!
