PAOK THESSALONIKI – METALIST KHARKIV : PREDICTIONS

Champions League reaches third qualifying stage and we have an interesting tie lined up in Greece, two sides we don’t usually see in this competition; Its PAOK Thessaloniki v Metalist Kharkiv.

PAOK Thessaloniki are one of the most successful sides from Northern Greece,  but this constitutes little as they are way behind the likes of Pana, Olympiakos and AEK in titles. They have two championships to their name and grabbed the all-important runners up spot last year to get this crack at Champions League. In European competition they have 126 ties so far with 47 wins, 36 draws and 43 wins. However in Champions League they have only managed 10 games with just the 1 win, 3 draws and 6 defeats. Their two recent Champions League ties saw them defeated by Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax at this stage. Greece Super League is yet to start so their may be a fitness issue.

Metalist Kharkiv have finally triumphed over Dynamo Kiev and knocked the old powerhouse from the Champions League spot. After 5 consecutive 3^rd place finished the side from Kharkiv finally got their reward last season with a runners up medal. The side is packed with quality, with Argentina, Brazil and Ukraine players making up this cosmopolitan side. In European Competition they have 54 games with 28 wins, 13 draws and 13 defeats. However they have yet to participate at this level, their 1^st tie will be a steep learning curve. Ukrainians are three games into their season and have had a perfect start with 2 straight wins.

PAOK THESSALONIKI – METALIST KHARKIV: BETTING TIPS

This looks a close game on the face of it but don’t be fooled. 1^st of all the tie is being played “behind closed doors” due to problems from PAOK’s last European adventure. Home advantage has pretty much disappeared. These two leagues are going in opposite directions. Olympiakos are the exception but the Greek League is going down the pan. Conversely the Ukranian league goes from strength to strength. A tie in Greece was always a tough assignment but no more. I am looking at Metalist to go through with ease here. I’m going for the outright win here as I think the Ukranians can handle both legs that’s how confident I am. 2.60 Metalist Kharkiv with bet365 – would suggest you get on now, seems others agree!
