This is the battle of the big bucks in the Champions League quarter finals. Both of these two clubs have enjoyed huge injections of cash from their owners in recent years. It should be a balanced match between two teams that have excellent control over the defensive aspects of the game and individual match winners offensively.
PSG v Chelsea; form and stats
PSG is 13-2-1 in their last fifteen games. They are the runaway leader domestically and head into this tie with confidence. In the Champions League they have played nine games since their return to the competition, losing none.
Chelsea lost to Palace in the weekend, but within the interval of their five last games they have destroyed Tottenham 4-0 and Arsenal 6-0 at home. I cannot see any reason to say the Blues are out of form. In the Champions League Chelsea has not been all that fantastic away from home. In the last round they were really good the first 45 minutes against Galatasaray, but were pressed back in the second (ended 1-1). They have also lost to Basel.
PSG v Chelsea; team news
PSG will miss right back Gregory van der Wiel due to injury. Chelsea has doubts over David Luiz (defensive midfielder/central defender). Veteran striker Samuel Eto sits out. Central Midfielder Ramires is not ready to play yet. Also Ashley Cole (left back) sits out.
PSG v Chelsea; run of play
I think Mourinho has few options here. He is up against a Laurent Blanc side with close to no weaknesses. It is very likely he will deploy a park-the-bus defense and rely on speedy counter attacks executed by Eden Hazard, Schurrle, Willian and Oscar (if he gets the nod during the match) mainly.
Laurent Blanc will most likely want his team to control the game, and set up chances for their fantastic strikers. I definitely think PSG will have the ball about 62-65% of the ninety minutes.
PSG v Chelsea; betting tip
I am on 2.05 for PSG. They have been rock solid at home in the Champions League, while I have question marks over the performances of Chelsea away from home.
I rate both Chelsea and PSG highly defensively, but I think PSG has a much better attacking line up than Chelsea. Here I think PSG will be able to create plenty of chances both from open play and set pieces. I also think the Parisians can cope with the counter attacks Mourinho is likely to plot.
