Roma opened domestically with a good win over Fiorentina and followed up with a slightly lucky 1-0 win away to Empoli. Totti was rested versus Empoli, and Gervinho only came on late. They should be fresh to take on this Champions League event. For Roma Danielle De Rossi will be missing though. However, the midfield of Roma is world class and they should be able to cope.
CSKA had a blip of form in the Russian Premier League, but look over it as they trounced Rostov 6-0 and followed that up with a 2-1 win against Arsenal Tula. Doumbia is now back in the eleven, and his offensive contribution will be a big plus. However Dzagoev and Wernblom are both suspended for the visitors. CSKA had a tough group last season too, and met Bayern Munich and Manchester City even then. Roma is an even tougher opponent than Plzen who was the fourth team of the group then.
I do like the Moscow based side. However I think they will get trouble in midfield here with both Wernblom and Dzagoev out. Roma can line up a massive midfield combination even with De Rossi out. As we all know the ball is around 50% of the time in midfield, and the team that can impose itself on that area is in good shape. That said, CSKA has some really talented attacking players and I can easily see them score here.
As the odds are only around 1.50/1.60 for the home win I am not looking to pounce. I can't see Roma having done anything to deserve that type of odds. I do however see goals here, and SBO has 1.84 for over 2.25 goals here. If the game ends with two goals only we lose half a unit, and if the game ends with three goals or more we win our 1 unit x the stake. I like that proposition better than the 2.08 they offer for over 2.5. As usual my money is where my mouth is. I am on it!
