SHAKHTAR DONETSK V CHELSEA PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: STATS AND FACTS
Shakhtar are running away with the Ukrainian title this year despite only 12 games having been played. They have won all 12 matches, scoring 38 goals and conceding just 6 and have a huge 12 point lead over the chasing pack. They have also been in strong form in the Champions League, beating Nordsjaelland at home and drawing away at Juventus, they will feel second place in the group is achievable at a minimum.
Chelsea are in excellent form too at the moment and sit top of the EPL with 22 points from 8 games giving them a 4 point lead over Manchester United. Winning two games away at London rivals Arsenal and Spurs over the last few weeks have made them a real challenger or the title. In the Champions League they have 4 points after a home draw against Juve and an easy away win against Nordsjaelland.
RUN OF PLAY AND TEAM NEWS
Shakhtar have been untouchable in their domestic league this season, winning every game. Their star player has been Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan who has an excellent 14 goals in 12 appearances. Their defence has also been a major factor in their success allowing just 0.5 goals a game in the league this year.
Chelsea seem like a totally different team this year with a dynamic attack force that teams are finding it very difficult to cope with. They signed two 21 year olds for a combined €72m in Oscar and Hazard and both have revolutionised the team, forming an excellent attacking midfield partnership with Juan Mata, allowing all 3 players time and space to create chances.
As much as their attacking play has improved, Chelsea have not let their excellent defensive standards slip and have the best defensive record in the league, allowing just 6 goals in 8 games.

As the home team Shakhtar are favourites for this one, their home form obviously being impeccable this season. Chelsea though has won their last 3 away matches, scoring 10 goals in the process and facing some strong teams in Arsenal and Tottenham
I think the value here lies in the home win though, Shakhtar have been dominant against everyone they have played at home and until I see another team come and match them then I will keep betting on them.

In their past 5 matches, 3 of Shakhtar’s games have finished with over 2.5 goals. With Chelsea all 5 of their latest games have ended over. Despite this the Under is a favourite at the bookies, which I don’t quite agree with.
I think the 2.1 Paddy Power are offering on Over 2.5 goals is an excellent bet and will be backing that.
