Shakhtar have had a relatively difficult Champions League section this time around and could fall at the 1^st hurdle unless they grab a few positive results. They were very dominant in San Sebastian and ran out 2-0 winners. However they have been a little sloppy in other games and sit 3^rd in the group with 1 win, 2 draws and 1 loss.  Midfield maestro Bernard returns from Brazil and is available.  Superb form for Shaktar witg 7 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat from 10, including 6 clean sheets. Sociedad are all but eliminated unless they can pull two defeats from nowhere. Large margin wins here and at home to Leverkusen or out. Sociedad had struggled to get into a rhythm of League – Champs League and league and form was poor in the early weeks in Spain. They have since recovered and surged back up La Liga but it looks too late for the European season to be salvaged. Recent form is mixed with 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. Bergara is a notable absentee for Sociedad.

Group A has been one of the few Champions League groups devoid of goals. It’s a high quality and very even section so apart from a few big wins its been very tight indeed. Shaktar have only managed 2 goals per game and only 1 of the 4 matches has gone over 2.5. Sociedad have been even lower with just 1.5 goals per game. Again just 1 of 4 going over 2.5 goals.
