EL SALVADOR – TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: PREDICTIONS

Concacaf Gold Cup swings into action with a game against two of the lesser nations. Both teams have featured in World Cup Finals action though so plenty on offer for us here. El Salvador v Trinidad & Tobago in New Jersey in their opening fixtures in Group B.

El Salvador have been struggling of late with just one win in nine games. In a run stretching back to October 2012 they have managed just two draws and have lost six games. The level of opponents is the problem with the side ranked 94 in the world constantly testing themselves against Mexico, Costa Rica and even the South Americans Ecuador and Paraguay. Its an enviable task but seems to be having little confidence to the team. Indeed only wins over tiny Belize and draws with Panama and eternal rivals Honduras to show for it.

Trinidad & Tobago have taken the opposite approach to friendlies and are playing the minnow nations. It has helped them to pick up some victories but I think this did not help them when the standard picked up. Trinidad’s form looks a little better on paper than their rivals as they have 1 wins, 3 draws and 5 defeats in the same time period but included in that run is a scoreless streak that goes back five games. The wins were over a desperate Dominica side, with draws to a useless Martinique side and equally poor Cuba and Belize. T & T were duly tonked when stepping up in class. Losing without scoring to Peru, Romania and Estonia; conceding eight in the process.
