BRAZIL - URUGUAY: PREDICTIONS

Confederations cup Semifinal day and it’s an all South American match up. Hosts Brazil are 3 from 3 and are big favourites against Uruguay. Belo Horizonte is the venue in what is a mouthwatering tie.

Brazil has been very efficient so far in this tournament, winning well against Japan, Mexico and Italy. The side is solid all round and looks one that can create a goal with minimum effort. Neymar has been very good so far and with Fred looking deadly Brazil are in great shape. Coach Felipao still seems to believe in Hulk but it’s fair to say the Brazil public considers him a weak link. Young Chelsea man Oscar looks as if he has been playing for the national team for life and has been exceptional too. With Marcelo and Alves playing the flying wingbacks role to perfection Brazil have plenty of ammunition. My only worry is David Luiz at central defence who is always capable of a rick. With 9 goals scored in three competitive fixtures and only 2 conceded Brazil will be greatful for competitive action after countless friendly matches.

Uruguay go into the game on the back of two straight wins over Nigeria and Tahiti. After opening up to World Champions Spain the team from South America were reduced to chasing the ball or almost 90 minutes. This is par for the course though for any team facing Spain and Uruguay did look ever so ordinary. For a team boasting such striking talent as Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Diego Forlan and Abel Hernandez they were expected to compete but never did. Second game was a tight one but Uruguay prevailed over a young Nigeria side 2-1. Last time out coach Oscar Taberez chose to rest most of the 1st team against the useless Tahiti. After a stroll for 90 minutes Uruguay managed to bag an 8-0 win with back up striker Hernandez doing the damage with 4 goals. Luis Suarez was only on the pitch for 15 minutes but still managed to score twice. Left back Andres Scotti was red carded and will miss this game but he was not 1st choice.

BRAZIL - URUGUAY: BETTING TIPS

Brazil look to have this one in the bag and serious money is piling onto the home side. The odds have contracted already from an initial 1.50 to around 1.35 now. Uruguay know how to play against Brazil though and they will take an ugly approach to the game in midfield and defence. Upfront they do have an attack the envy of any side in the world but Cavani in particular seems exhausted. Suarez is on form though and Tabarez may even decide to shake things up. Brazil have met Uruguay 14 times with 7 wins for them and 4 for Uruguay. In Brazil there have been 7 matches with 4 Brazil wins and just 1 Uruguay. The home side look good for me though and I take a Brazil win -1.5 at 2.00 (bet365) Brazil have covered the 1.5 spread in all three games so far and this looks another one for me.
