FLUMINENSE - OLIMPIA PREDICTIONS

Copa Libertadores sees Brazilian giants Fluminense  face up to another unheralded quarter finalists in Olimpo of Paraguay.

Fluminense have assembled a real crack squad of players and should go far in Brazil Serie A and in this year’s Copa Libertadores. Due to the complex nature of the Brazilian season Flu are still technically in preseason, even after playing 18 games in the regional state championships! Huge rivals Botafogo defeated Fluminense in the recent Taca Rio finals. Fluminense so far in the state championships have won 10,drawn 5 and lost 3. A runners up medal in Taca Rio and a last 4 place in Taca Guanabara is a bad start for the Rio giants.  Fluminense have such strength in depth with options in all departments that they really should be doing better. In Copa Libertadores they have had a mixed record too with 4 wins, 2 draws and  2 defeats. With such attacking talent in Wellington Nem, Rafael Sobis, and Fred amongst others they have many dangerous combinations. Fluminense have an almost full squad to choose from with just veteran Deco missing after a failed drug test.

Olimpia are a giant in Paraguayan terms, Olimpia are the most decorated institution in all Paraguayan football with 39 domestic titles to date. They hold 8 international titles, among which there are 3 Copa Libertadores and 1 Intercontinental Cup. That they have made the last eight is hardly unexpected but Paraguayan teams have not had much success in recent years. No Paraguayan side since Olimpo themselves (when winning it in 2002) has contested a continental final. Olimpia have not really contested this years Apertura as they have put all their concentration into Copa Libertadores. Resting players for league games has seen them sitting in 6^th position with 5 wins, 4 draws and 5 defeats but I would not read too much into these results. In this years Copa Libertadores Olimpia have performed really well with 6 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats.  Beating the likes of Newells, Uni de Chile and Tigre along the way.

FLUMINENSE - OLIMPIA: BETTING TIPS

Not a straight forward this game by any means as Olimpia have grown into the competition and should not be treated lightly. Fluminense are such an side of immense talent they should have this game. I expect the Paraguayans to aim to keep it as tight as possible in order to give them a fighting chance back home in Asuncion. I don’t see them scoring though but do not see Flu running away with either so I am taking Fluminense to win to nil at 2.20. The odds on this are shortening as we near kick off so suggest an early bet.
