Czech Republic take on Croatia in St Etienne in this 2nd round Group D match. Czech Republic held Spain for long periods in the opening game but you always felt a goal was coming. They defended deep and in packs but were chasing the Spanish around for most of the match. They did have a few promising breakaways but in all fairness a 1-0 loss was about right. Borek Dockal is the only injury worry. Croatia were the better side in their opening match against a very defensive minded Turkey side. Luca Modric scored a cracking volley to separate the sides but in truth they had little to do as the opposition offered little in attack. Darijo Srna is a doubt for this game due to a family bereavement. No other injury news for Croatia. In head to heads between these sides there are just 2 meetings with 1 draw and 1 win for Croatia.
The tournament is shaping up to be a very tight affair, even in lopsided matches. Teams are happy to sit back and invite the opposition onto them.
