Euro 2016 moves to the 2nd phase of games and its Russia v Slovakia that opens up that section in Group B. Russia scored a dramatic equaliser in Marseille to take a point of England in a 1-1 draw. Although many observers felt England fully deserved the win I felt Russia had deserved a point. England looked more dynamic and passed it a lot more but Russia controlled the backline and looked dangerous 2nd half. Dmitri Torbinski and Denis Glushakov are both injured and will likely not feature. Slovakia were a fancy of mine to beat Wales but were out battled, outmanoeuvred and simply outplayed by their opposition. They went down 2-1 and deservedly so for me. They were 2nd best in all areas and didn’t fancy the fight at all. They have it all to do now to go through but with places available for best 3rd place teams they have a chance. No injury worries for Slovakia but surely a few rotating in to get the team back on track.
Of the two sides Russia looked the better in their opening games. However Slovakia for me are the better side man for man. The odds are very tight here and for me a draw wouldn’t be so bad for either side going into the last game. Hard to pick a winner between the pair and a level match looks best bet.
