ANZHI V NEWCASTLE UNITED PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

The last 16 of the Europa League throws up some very interesting matchups and it is at this point that the teams begin to focus on the competition and we see full strength teams for each match.

Anzhi are 2^nd in the Russian Premier League with 41 points from 19 matches which has them 2 points behind leaders CSKA but 3 points ahead of Zenit in the very important race for a top 2 place and a Champions League spot.  They are only returning to domestic action this weekend after a 3 month winter break so their most recent matches were their win over Hannover in the previous round of this competition.

Newcastle have struggled in the EPL this season and are down in 15^th place with 30 points from 28 matches which gives them a 6 point gap over the relegation zone.  They got through to this stage thanks to a 1-0 away win against Metalist after a goalless first leg.  They left it late but a 2^nd half penalty from Shola Ameobi gave Newcastle the win.

It’s hard to judge Anzhi’s form with their large Winter break but they looked impressive in the last round and will be very fresh with no matches for the past 14 days since then.  Newcastle will still have one eye on making sure they stay clear of relegation in the Premier League so that might affect their focus somewhat.
