Apollon Limassol are participating in this year’s Europa League due to their win in the Cypriot Cup in May, where they beat AEL Limassol 2-1 after extra time. After the cup win they have played only a few matches, a friendly away to Fiorentina that they lost 7-0, and the Cypriot super cup against APOEL that they lost 1-0.

Nice finished a great fourth place last season in Ligue 1 and therefore earned this Europa League spot. This season they are not expected to repeat that result and will most likely end up around middle of table. They have played two league matches so far, they lost the first one 4-0 away to Lyon, and then won the second match 2-1 at home to Rennes.

Last time Apollon were playing in Europe was 2010/11 Europa League when they reached third qualifying round. Before that they played first qualifying round of Champions League in 2006/07. Nice have even less participation in Europe last few years, you have to go back to 2004 for their last appearance, when they reached second round of the Intertoto cup.
