This tie could throw up some surprises with two in form teams battling it out for a place in the Europa League last 8.
Basel start at home and have been in fine form in the Swiss Super League with 43 points from 22 matches which leaves them in 2nd place just 2 points behind leaders Grasshopper. They will be desperate at another crack at the Champions League after failing in the qualifiers for this season’s competition. In the last round of the Europa they beat a strong Dnipro side with a 2-0 home win then held them 1-1 away from home. They will be aiming to get a win here to take to Russia in what will be a much more difficult tie.
Zenit are 3rd in the Russian Premier League just 3 points behind 2nd place Anzhi and a Champions League spot. With the money they spent this summer a top 2 place is the minimum they expect and a strong run in this competition would also be expected.
