BENFICA V BORDEAUX PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

Benfica is hosting Bordeaux in their impressive 65 000 seater Estádio da Luz, for the first leg of Europa League Last 16. Benfica went through after two wins over Bayer Leverkusen in the previous round (0-1 in Germany and 2-1 in Portugal). Bordeaux got its qualification quite miraculously against Dinamo Kiev. They drew 1-1 in Ukraine and then Bordeaux won the 2^nd leg 1-0, even though they were clearly dominated in both games.

Benfica is in excellent shape this season. They are standing on top of the Portuguese Liga with 2 points ahead of FC Porto. They are still unbeaten in their league this season (17 wins, 4 draws) and could finally manage to take the title after two seasons finishing second behind Porto.

Bordeaux is doing much poorer in Ligue 1. They are in 10^th position with a worrying run of 4 losses in a row in the league. After a solid first half of season, it seems like the coach Francis Gillot lost the control of its squad and doesn’t find the way to wake them up. They were just behind the podium a few weeks ago and they are now nearly out of the race for a European spot.

Benfica had the level to go through the group stage in Champion’s League, but failed behind Barcelone and Celtic Glasgow. They made it easily against Bayer Leverkusen, who is a better team than Bordeaux. The Portuguese usually go far in Europa League, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Benfica in the last two rounds. They will put a lot of pressure on this Bordeaux’s team who will, once again, come and try to keep a draw in this first leg. I would back Benfica at 1.57 with Coral.
