Besiktas v Tromso predictions and betting tips

Tromso won the first leg 2-1 at home, a surprising result that made sure there is some excitement for this second leg in Turkey. Besiktas scored first after just nine minutes and the Tromso fans probably expected the worst after that, but there were no more goals in the first half, and in the second half Tromso equalized after two minutes and then took the lead after 68 minutes. Overall Besiktas had eleven attempts where seven were on target, Tromso only four attempts where all were on target. 

Besiktas are expected to take the third place in the Turkish Superlig, and so far they are in first place after two wins in two matches. They look to be in decent form, having lost only the match against Tromso in the last five matches. Tromso are two thirds into the Norwegian season, and on the 13th place only two points ahead of relegation. They are in poor domestic form and have not won in the last eight league matches, including the last match on Sunday where they lost 1-0 away to Haugesund.

Besiktas will be without defensive midfielder Manuel Fernandes (he played first leg and league matches), attacker Filip Holosko (has not played this season), midfielder Ugur Boral (has not played this season), Gunay Guvenc (goalie, has not played this season).

For Tromso the reserve goalie Benny Lekstrom will not be in the squad (a new 17-year old reserve goalie has been called up).

Besiktas v Tromso betting tips

Tromso have a decent starting point for this second leg, but the away goal to Besiktas means Besiktas should be confident in advancing to the group stages. I am sure the Tromso players will fight hard in this match, but playing in Istanbul will be a completely different affair compared to the first leg. Besiktas will go through with a 1-0 win, but will probably not stop there, and if Tromso concede a goal first then they will need to attack and this will only create more opportunities for Besiktas.

One important factor here is that Besiktas might not play in the group stage even if they win on aggregate. Same as with Fenerbahce, Besiktas are risking a ban from European competition due to match-fixing allegations, and they look set to get the same verdict as Fenerbahce on Friday (it is said that Tromso are already invited to the UEFA draw in Monaco, but of course nothing is 100% until verdict is made public). Therefore the motivation for Besiktas could be reduced, so this is not a match to place high bets on, and to keep an eye out for late team news suggesting Besiktas is down-prioritizing the match.
