BORDEAUX V BENFICA PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS AND FACTS

In the first leg, the Portuguese won 1-0 at home, as pretty much everyone expected. However, we would have thought that it would have been a much easier game from Benfica, especially since they managed to score after only 21 minutes (own goal from Carrasso, Bordeaux’s goalkeeper). But after this goal, the home side struggled to get opportunities. Benfica got 52% ball possession and only 4 shots on goal in the whole game.

It Is hard to know whether Benfica was just in a bad day, or doesn’t like Bordeaux’s defensive animation, or if they don’t really mind about this Europa League considering their first spot in the league (2 points above). Indeed, after this match, Benfica had much less trouble in the league with their 5-0 win over Gil Vicente.

Bordeaux hasn’t conceded a single goal in its last 4 home games in Europa League, including teams like Dinamo Kiev or Newcastle. Last weekend, they got a 1-0 home win over Bastia in the Ligue 1.

Benfica will be missing two very important players in Luisao (the captain) and Ezequiel Garay, who are their usual center backs.
