Hibernians of Malta host Spartak Trnava of Slovakia at National Stadium in Ta Q’ali. Hibernians finished 3rd in league last year. Hibernians are generally regarded as one of the better teams in Malta. They have not had the best record in recent years in European competition. Drawing 1 and losing three over the last two years. Trnava finished 3rd in Superliga last season, a massive 22 points behind league winners Slovan Bratislava. The Slovaks have only played four games in the last 2 years in Europe. For me a good indicator here for this game is Sliema’s match with Ferencvaros yesterday. Sliema dominated for long periods and the Hungarians struggled in the intense heat. A 1-1 draw was probably a bit harsh on Sliema. Hibernians are a better side than Sliema and for me they will be able to compete with a Trnava side who has yet to play competitively. The Maltese teams in European competition have been preparing for Europa League for a few weeks now and are sharper and more suited to conditions.
