The 1st leg of Europe League match between Villarreal and Liverpool was quite an even match and looked to be coasting towards a 0-0 draw until a late, late goal changed the whole tie. It was the 1st defeat for Liverpool in the competition and leaves them needing to win and for sure keeping a clean sheet. If Villarreal score Liverpool will have to win by 2 clear goals and that’s a tall order. Liverpool are without a host of players but they do have immense squad depth. They miss Can, Henderson, Origi while Flanagan is ineligible. Villarreal have a full squad to choose from for this one. Of the two sides I would say Liverpool will be more the fresher having played a 2nd string side against Swansea. Villarreal rotated a few out in their away win at Valencia but had to play at full intensity.
Liverpool are 4-5 to win the match but with the complexities of the away goals rule they need to win to nil to go through without having to rack up a few goals. If its 1-0 it goes to extra time and that’s a big possibility for me. I think if Villarreal score it will be very hard for Liverpool to go though. I think Liverpool will either take it somehow. The odds of 7-5 or 2.40 on Liverpool to qualify look good.
