LYON – VITORIA DE GUIMAREAS: PREDICTIONS     

Lyon seemed to be much weaker than usual. Struggling in the league and on the European stage. Domestically Lyon sit in 9^th with 3 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats. However in France the entire league are light years behind PSG and Monaco and are all chasing the 3^rd spot and the Champions League qualifier place. This year Lyon had a playoff with Real Sociedad and were so far below them in quality. They lost in both legs without showing much at all. In Europa League they faced Spanish opposition again but showed little in a 0-0 draw with Betis.

Vitoria Guimaraes had a decent start to the season that has been blown apart by a mauling at home to Setubal.  They lost recently at home to Benfica and away at Porto. Two 1-0 defeats in which they offered little more than endeavour. Initially Vitoria looked solid and had 2 wins and a draw, beating Olhanense and Rio Ave without conceding and drawing with Nacional in Madeira. One game has been played in Supercoppa but they were outclassed and were beaten easily 3-0 at Porto. Matchday 1 saw Vitoria hammer Croatians Rijeka 4-0 in a dominant display.

This game looks on paper a straightforward home win for Lyon. However this is not the Lyon of old and I am keen to get against them. Vitoria have just completed 2 games against sides much better than Lyon; OK they lost both but only narrowly (2 x 1-0 losses to Benfica and Porto)
