MARSEILLE – AEL PREDICTIONS AND PREVIEW: BETTING STATS

Marseille have had an excellent start to the season and sit top of the league on 18 points after 7 matches. They did however suffer their first defeat of the season in a resounding 4-1 loss away at Valenciennes. This is their only blemish in an otherwise perfect record in Ligue 1. Only 2 of their matches in Ligue 1 this season have ended in over 2.5 Goals, which is thanks to a defensive record that until this weekend had only given up one goal in 6 matches.

AEL are only 4 games in to their domestic season but have picked up 8 points thanks to 2 wins and 2 draws. They have drawn their last 3 matches in all competitions, scoring just 1 goal. Their first Europa League match was a very strong 0-0 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach, a result that was certainly not expected considering the difference in resources between the teams.

TEAM NEWS AND RUN OF PLAY

Marseille have been the inform team so far in the French season and look like fighting their way back to the top 4 after a miserable 10^th place finish last year. Their defence has been almost impregnable until their latest match where they lost 4 goals. I am going to take this as a one off and expect them to bounce back from it quickly. Their last Europa League game was a 2-2 away draw with Fenerbahce where they fought back from 2 goals down. The important thing from the game was the team selection, a full strength team shows they will be taking this competition seriously.

AEL won the title in Cyprus for the first time in over 40 years last season, giving them the chance at Champions League qualification. They fought impressively through 2 qualifying rounds beating Linfield and Partizan and were looking like qualifying for the group stages with a 2-1 lead against Anderlecht in the final round and just 10 minutes of the game remaining. Disaster struck however and two late goals from Anderlecht meant AEL had to settle for a Europa League place.

MARSEILLE – AEL PREDICTIONS: 1X2 BETTING PREVIEW

Marseille are as expected huge favourites at home in this match, I think the market might be undervaluing AEL though slightly. They may not have played anyone of Marseille’s quality but they are undefeated in 5 games and have nothing to lose.

I’m going to make a small play on the draw at 5.25 with Stan James.

MARSEILLE – AEL PREDICTIONS: ASIAN HANDICAP PREVIEW

If you don’t want such an outside bet but think the market might be underrating AEL then the Asian handicap market gives us many options. The bet I think seems best is bet365 offering a nice 1.85 on AEL +1.5. This means we would win with any AEL win, any draw and a Marseille win of just one goal. We’d only lose if Marseille managed to win by 2 or more clear goals.
