Apollon Limassol have never reached the group stages in a UEFA competition before and they were the clear underdog going into this play-off tie against Nice. But Apollon won 2-0 at home in the first leg and have a great starting point for this second leg in France, both goals scored by Argentinian forward Gaston Sangoy in the second half (53rd and 63rd minute).

Nice are currently in 11th place in Ligue one, after three matches they have one win, one draw, and one loss. Their last match was a draw 1-1 away to Ajaccio, a match they had 58% possession in but still managed only two shots on target.
