Omonia Nicosia v Astra Giurgiu predictions

When the sides met in Romania for the first leg of this Europa League clash it ended 1-1.

Omonia Nicosia pretty much has the same side as last season. They've lost the highly rated attacking midfielder Dimitris Christofi, who was one of few local lads in this squad. Israeli international defender Yuval Shpungin has also left the squad. The replacements do look pretty good though. Jose is a solid defender having played many years for Girona in the Spanish Segunda, and Taylor has had many decent attacking cameos for Estoril in Portugal. We'll probably see more of Polish Gikiewicz too up front.

Astra Giurgiu has since the first leg of this tie started their domestic campaign with a 4-0 away trashing of Viitorul Constanta who is one of the weaker sides in Liga I. Obviously, Astra Giurgiu now has a slight advantage in having more competitive games under their belt. Astra hasn't changed their rooster much either. Gheorghe Florescu had a short spell on loan last season, he has now gone to the Russian Premier League. They've brought in some young players as well as a more experienced midfielder (Vincent Laban). Laban came from Cypriot side Anorthosis, and he got a good 70 minute run against V. Constanta.

Lots of top talent comes to Cyprus. Also, there is a heat wave in Cyprus right now. Astra will be used to heat, but right now it is 38 degrees in the Nicosia shade. The tempo will therefore be a tad lower cancelling out the advantage Astra has from more competitive games. This home win price just seems too high for me!
