Both these sides took part in the Champions league qualifiers and came one step beyond reaching the group stages. PAOK were beaten by Metalist but were put back in following their exclusion. They then went out to Schalke but performed with great credit in a single goal aggregate loss. PAOK have started well in the Greek league with three wins and a loss. They are unbeaten at home in their last seven European group stage matches at home and will expect that run to continue in this game. Defender Miguel Vitor signed from Benfica has two goals to his credit already and is proving a good signing.

Karagandy from Kazakhstan came close to achieving the unthinkable by qualifying for the Champions league group stages. After a tremendous achievement to beat Bate Borisov, they beat Celtic 2-0 at home. They lost the return 3-0 to bow out, but it took a 90^th minute goal to defeat them. They are well into their domestic season but worryingly have lost both games since the Celtic match.
