This is where it gets interesting. PSV fielded a very strong side against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Napoli on the other hand rested most of their top stars. Hamsik was involved as a substitute, but he was sent of in the 75th minute. He will obviously not be appearing here. Most likely Napoli will leave some stars in Italy, and put another few on the bench. It is relatively clear they are focused on the Serie A this season.

PSV will field a mix of experience and youth. Their offense is massive, and they know how to play ball. Like most Dutch clubs PSV is a selling one, but this transfer window it looked more like they were strengthened rather than weakened. Van Bommel, even if he is not a young stud any more is a positive move. He has been good for PSV so far.

I expect PSV to go for goals against a depleted Napoli side, and they got plenty of offensive players. Toivonen, Mertens and Matavž are examples of that. I do with a great deal of certainty think goals will come their way here. I would also be surprised if they can't get 55%+ of the possession. This should give the home side confidence and time to get things going for them.

Napoli has great strikers in young Chilean ,Vargas and the even younger Insigne. Give these two some time and they can perhaps even fill the boots of star striker Cavani who most likely will be rested. Vargas notched three goals against AIK so he is one to watch for sure. Napoli got to do the most out of the possession they will be given, and they need to get on the counter as often as possible. I am sure they will get their chances, and PSV given their offensive nature might have to see one or two Napoli goals hit the net.

Given that Cavani, Pandev, Inler, Cannavaro and more stars look likely to be rested, and PSVs 20 games unbeaten run the home win does tempt me more than a bit. I desperately tried to get a bet on at 2.25 (5/4) but the bookmaker denied me. Instead I opted for 2.15 which in my opinion still is massive given the setting.

I do think Napoli can notch a goal or two on their own, so I am a little bit wary of taking anything wider than a PSV -1 Asian Handicap bet. I am also not interested in the draw no bet given PSV's score a lot - leak a lot tendencies. A -1 looks decent, and when Pinnacle Sports give 2.79, what can I say: I take it.

PSV v NAPOLI PREDICTIONS: TOTAL GOALS PREVIEW

I think this game will create chances and goals. I think we have to be really unlucky not to see this go over 2.5. For me this must be close to a 60% chance of seeing three goals or more given this particular setting. In other words; 1.85 from Betfair is eatable odds food. I take it, and look forward to watching this game on Thursday night with my legs on the table and a Carlsberg in my hand.
