Real Betis are hosting Lyon in this Europa League group I match between the two best teams in this group. Real Betis are considered the best team in the group, but Lyon are not far behind if you look at the group outright winner odds. Real Betis have started their domestic season in a not so good fashion, winning one, drawing one, and losing two matches. They lost to Real Madrid as expected, but also to Celta Vigo, and managed a draw against Espanyol. Their only win came at home to Valencia in the last match. In the Europa League they have played one round before the group stages, they beat Jablonec from Czech Republic comfortably 8-1 on aggregate.

Lyon are expected to finish top four/five in the French Ligue 1, so far they are in 8th place after five matches, having won two, tied one, and lost two matches. They started the season with two wins against Nice and Sochaux, but then they lost to Reims and Evian, and in the last match they tied 0-0 at home to Rennes. So not very impressive results, and they surely need to improve if they want to challenge Real Betis for the group win. Lyon played in two rounds of Champions League qualifiers, they beat Grasshopper 2-0 on aggregate, but lost clearly to Real Sociedad in next round 4-0 on aggregate and are therefore in Europa League instead.

Last time Real Betis played in Europe was in 2005/06, in the group stage of Champions League. Lyon played last season in Europa League, they won their group comfortably but then lost in first round of knockout stage against Tottenham.

For Real Betis midfielder Vilarchao remains unavailable. Midfielder Verdu, attacking midfielder Carlos and attacking midfielder Castro all are doubtful as they missed the Valencia match through injury. Defender Perquis is also doubtful, and it is possible that these doubtful players may not be risked for a Europa League match. Lyon will be without attacking midfielder Gourcuff again (he started in four of the league matches and is the highest rated Lyon player this season). Right defender Lopes is also out (he started in four of the league matches), and same with midfielder Danic (came in as sub in two matches and got injured early in the third).
