Rosenborg is in-season, looking sharp and leading the pack in the Norwegian Eliteserien. They've done some good business bringing in Soderlund (attacker, who will miss this game due to injury) and Skjelvik (Defender). Soderlund is a direct replacement of Elyounoussi who went to the Bundesliga.

The Norwegians played Belfast based Cruaders in the first Qualifying round and won 9-3 on aggregate. This Rosenborg side has lots of Europa League experience. Last season they were in a tough group with Metalist, Leverkusen and Rapid Wien.

St. Johnstone is in pre season for their opener in the Scottish Premier League in early August. The scots will be looking to build upon their 3rd place finishing of last season. Three regulars have left them this transfer window:  Liam Craig (Midfielder), Tade (Offensive), Rowan Vine (Offensive). They've brought in David Wotherspoon (Midfielder) who is a decent player and some relatively unproven ones. The jury is still out on the signings to say the least. David Robertson is their only injury worry!

Betting Tips

Rosenborg has so much European experience, and coach Per Joar Hansen (controversial signing) has slowly but surely installed more confidence in this former power house that is RBK. The fact that Rosenborg is in the middle of their season while St. Johsntone still has some weeks to go is a big plus for the home side. It's one thing to train and get into shape. It's another to function as a team and play competitive matches.

Rosenborg -1.5 at 1.775 with BET365 is my pick. I can't see Rosenborg gamble here. They will go for it, knowing their opponent is only in pre season. Playing for a 1-0 win, leaving it to the next leg (when St. Johnstone would be more match fit) makes little or no sense at all. Rosenborg is confident and I am fairly sure goals will come.
